Sidebar Messaging
UX Designer | 2022
Overview
I participated in a design sprint to improve Filevine’s communication functionality. Users frequently relied on external tools like Slack or Teams because the platform’s existing notes feature was cluttered and inefficient. This constant context switching disrupted workflows and made it difficult to track important messages.
Goal
Create a simple, efficient, and integrated messaging system within Filevine to reduce the need for external tools, minimize context switching, and improve user productivity.
Solution
We designed a messaging side panel that allowed users to start conversations directly from documents, notes, or tasks. Key features included contextual messaging, a do-not-disturb mode, private messaging, and the ability to resolve messages with actionable items. This streamlined design kept conversations within Filevine, reducing friction and improving workflow efficiency.
Results
The integrated messaging system significantly improved communication within Filevine, helping users stay focused and collaborate more effectively. By eliminating the need for external tools, the solution enhanced user satisfaction and directly contributed to securing a $150K contract for Filevine.
